Southampton Art Gallery

Please note that the talk for Wednesday 11th January 2012 on ‘The Art of Curating’ has been changed as the speaker, Alice Workman, has moved to Somerset.

Tim Craven, Lead Curator (Art) will consider the origins of Surrealism and how and why the movement employed strange new techniques.  He will investigate the colourful and eccentric artists of the British Surrealist movement launched at the infamous International Surrealist Exhibition organised by Roland Penrose and others in 1936.  This talk will be a good introduction to the Surrealist Exhibition to be held in February and follow on from the talk he gave us in September.

In anticipation of a larger than usual audience, the location has been moved for this talk into the Lecture Theatre – beginning at 10.30 a.m.
